DO NOT LOWER TAXI DRIVER STANDARDS !!
LET LEGAL TAXI DRIVERS EARN A LIVING 'WAGE' !!
SUPPORT THE FARE INCREASE PROPOSAL !!
...AND KEEP THE BIG FLEETS RUNNING
WITH QUALITY, CAREER DRIVERS !!!

NYC Taxi Metered Fares ...

I feel the following new rate-of-fare structure should be implemented.
A fare increase should be awarded immediately to offset basic operating &
cost-of-living expenses that have risen for New York City yellow cab drivers.

This NEW fare increase will also greatly improve the current taxi driver shortage !!

1) THE METERED WAITING TIME...
Due to the new 'Vision Zero' rules, the City's speed limit has been reduced from 30 MPH to 25 MPH.
Therefore, the NEW rate for metered waiting time should be directly proportionate to that reduced speed limit -
i.e. change the existing waiting time of $30.00 per hour to approx. $36.00 per hour.
The calibration should run at a rate of sixty cents (.60) per minute, and 'minutes' should
include all 'partial' minutes that add up to FULL minutes of stopped or slow traffic.

NOTE: THE RATIO BETWEEN THE METERED WAITING TIME & THE METERED ROLLING TIME
DRASTICALLY AFFECTS TAXI DRIVER & PASSENGER SAFETY !!

 2) ELIMINATE THE JFK FLAT RATE...
We should return to the metered rate for ALL fares within the borders of New York City.
The 'security' advantages of the JFK 'Flat Rate' are now obsolete due to the advent of new GPS & trip sheet technology.
Drivers - AND passengers - deserve the proper rate of fare, and the flat rate often results in DRASTIC fluctuations in
taxi driver earnings & passenger expenses .

3) Increase the 'Rush Hour' Surcharge -
The current 'rush hour' surcharge of $1.00 per trip should be increased to $2.00 per trip
and shall be in effect Mon. thru Friday - INCLUDING all legal holidays -
between 7 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 8 pm

3) CHARGE FOR TRUNK & OTHER ITEMS...
There should be a minimum charge for luggage and other items that involve an 'extra step'
in the street hailing process. The trunk and/or luggage charge should be a minimum of $2.00

4) THE METERED ROLLING TIME...
The metered rolling time should be raised from fifty cents (.50) per 1/5 mile to fifty cents (.50) per 1/6 mile.

5) THE INITIAL DROP...
The initial metered 'drop' should only be raised from $2.50 to $2.75
This 'drop' should always be equal to NYC-MTA fares - and should be kept low to incentivize ridership.

6) ADDITIONAL STOPS....
The metered fare shall allow two (2) passenger stops.
Any fare continuing on after the second stop shall allow the driver to completely reset the meter.

7) Newark Airport...
The fare shall be the standard New York City rate, with an initial 'drop' charge of $25.00 - plus any tolls.

8) Nassau & Westchester Counties ...
The fare shall ALSO be the standard New York City rate, with an initial 'drop' charge of $25.00 - plus any tolls.

9) Group rides shall be re-introduced at LaGuardia & JFK Airports,
with legitimate taxi dispatching personnel.
- Penn Station & Manhattan's Port Authority terminals
should also have this option for drivers and passengers.

10) Allow An 'Event Surcharge' for high-volume locations
that NEED IMMEDIATE YELLOW CABS !!
Citi Field, Yankee Stadium, Brooklyn Piers,
West Side Piers, Javits Convention Center, Barclay Center,
Madison Square Garden, Arthur Ashe Stadium, JFK, LGA... HELLO ?!?!

11) ALL drivers will be allowed to request PAYMENT IN ADVANCE
from passengers for ALL trips over $20.00.

12) Lease Cap Provisions...
There should be a fair and equitable distribution
of the new fare increase between taxi owners & drivers.
** There should also be a NEW option of DAILY rates and HOURLY rates **
Driver retention, quality vehicles and public safety depend on it !!

We need you @ TLC Commission. Meera Joshi has failed. Time for a new commissioner who actually KNOWS what he/she is doing.

Time to RE-revisit the NYC taxi rate of fare for the drivers !!

The Taxi Commission has in THEIR rules a LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY
to ensure the economic viability of the drivers !!

It... is... in... THEIR... rules !!!

Oh - and put the taxi rates back on the side of the door, please !!!
What an IDIOTIC IDEA to REMOVE the taxi rates from the yellow cab doors...
True 'genius' at work.... NOT !!
